ELLEMBELLE DISTRICT ASSEMBLY HOLDS TOWN HALL MEETING

The Ellembelle District Assembly has held a Town Hall Meeting (THM) to engage opinion leaders, chiefs, civil society organizations, assembly members, the clergy, Imams, institutions and the public in deliberations of national concern.

In a speech read on behalf of the Information Minister, Dr. Mustapha Hamid he mentioned that the THM served as a medium through which duty bearers and citizens come together to deliberate on issues of concern.

He explained that it is a forum designed by government to involve the citizens in the governance process and give them the opportunity to ask questions as well as seek clarifications on programmes rolled out by the government.

He hinted that government believed in a well informed citizens thus the bringing together of Ministry of Information, Information Services Department and the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies for the public engagement for mutual understanding in promoting the development agenda of the government.

Dr. Hamid expressed the optimism that the meeting would be beneficial and leave the citizens with answers to clarifications they seek.

The Regional Information Officer, Nana Armstrong Asmah took participants through the presentation of the various government projects and programmes. He pointed out that, in order to hit the goal of a galamsey free country, government had instituted an alternative livelihood programme for the youth like the youth in Agriculture.

He added that the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) was also instituted to reduce the unemployment rate among the youth.

For his part, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Kwasi Bonzoh revealed that the District would soon have a Light Industrial Area locally known as “Kokompe” for the transaction of such business at an approved area.

He mentioned that it would be beneficial to repairers, sellers and car owners to have a common destination to transact their business.

He indicated that the Assembly intends to construct a lorry park for cars to be stationed at a common place for smooth operation. He therefore appealed to all citizens to rally behind the government in implementing the good policies it has in store for the nation and support by any means possible for such realization.
