ELLEMBELLE DISTRICT ASSEMBLY INTERACTS WITH GIZ

In a quest to promote institutional collaboration between Assemblies and stakeholders for improved data management and structural programmes to enhance the decentralization reforms, the German Technical Corporation (GIZ) has held talks with management of the Ellembelle District Assembly.

The GIZ Advisor on Support for Decentralization Reforms Programme (SFDRP), Mr. Naku Adama pointed out that GIZ is a German based organization that has passion to support agencies for decentralization reforms especially within the District, Municipal and Metropolitan Assemblies.

He indicated that the main focus of the programme is to assist in improving Internally Generated fund (IGF) which includes information gathering for easy identification of institutions and properties within a district and therefore admonished management to take seriously the street naming exercise since it has a potential of boosting the Assembly’s IGF.

He explained that GIZ also assists MMDA’s in the preparation of the composite budget as well as planning related activities of the agencies they work with.

Mr. Adama pointed out that the programme believes in promoting sense of ownership which enables the MMDA’s and GIZ share the cost of programmes and work together for the success of such programmes.

He mentioned that GIZ works with the Regional Co-ordinating Councils, Local Government Service Secretariat (LGSS), Institute of Local Government among others.

The District Planning Officer of the Assembly, Mr. Michael Appiah-Acheampong indicated that the meeting was to deliberate on the Action Plan and Budget for 2017 and to confer with the officials of GIZ as to the areas that they would cover in terms of expenditure for the planned programmes.

The meeting was attended by officials from the Western Regional Co- ordinating Council, Town & Country Planning Department, District Planning and Co-ordinating Unit, Social Welfare, Business Advisory Centre and the Gender Desk officer.
