The Works Department of Ellembelle District Assembly manages public infrastructure development and maintenance, including roads, public buildings and facilities by assisting in policy formulation, project planning and implementation of physical plans.
Activities and Roles
- Assist the Assembly in formulating and implementing policies on works in line with national frameworks.
- Helps establish and define programs for implementing physical plans.
- Provides technical advice on matters related to works, public infrastructure and development control
Infrastructure development and maintenance
- Facilitates the construction, repair and maintenance of public roads and drains
- Manages and maintains public buildings such as offices, markets and residential accommodations
- Supports the development and maintenance of markets, sanitation structures and other public facilities.
Project Management and Implementation
- Reviews and approves building permit applications.
- Collaborates with other departments to inspect projects undertaken by the Assembly
- Ensures the integrated and harmonious development of infrastructure within the district
- Assists in preparing tender documents for civil works and supply of goods.
Regulation and Advice
- Advises on and ensure the safe, orderly and aesthetic development of the built environment
- Ensures the removal of dilapidated structures and management off nuisance from public places
- Provides guidance on fire safety, structural planning and the prohibition of unauthorized development
- Regulates activities like the use of lorry parks and provision of bus stops.
