INAUGURATION OF COMMUNITY COOPERATIVE MINING SCHEME AT TELEKU BOKAZO
Teleku Bokazo, Ellembelle (Western Region). September 24,2025-A new community cooperative Mining Scheme has been inaugurated at Teleku Bokazo to promote responsible and sustainable small-scale mining in the Ellembelle District. The initiative, though launched in Teleku Bokazo, is designed to benefit both Teleku Bokazo and Anwia communities.
The colorful event was graced by the Minister for lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, who underscored government’s commitment to ensuring that community members directly benefit from the natural resources in their locality, while adhering to safe and regulated mining practices.
The Chief of Teleku Bokazo, Nana Afful Kawa II, expressed his appreciation for the scheme and called on the youth and all stakeholders to embrace this opportunity for development while protecting the environment for future generations.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) For Ellembelle, Hon.Joseph Agyekum, in his remarks, emphasized the Assembly’s support for the cooperative and pledged to work with the Ministry and Traditional leaders to ensure the scheme thrives as a model for other mining communities.
The inauguration marks an important milestone in the government ‘s efforts to formalize small -scale mining and to provide alternative livelihoods while curbing illegal mining activities.

Media Highlights: Tullow Oil Stakeholder Engagement on TEN Field Operations

The Ellembelle District Assembly participated in a stakeholder engagement organized by Tullow Oil Ghana to provide updates on the Tweneboa-Enyenra-Ntomme(TEN) project and to strengthen dialogue with local communities.

The Ellembelle District Assembly commends Tullow Oil’s openness and encourages continuous dialogue to promote inclusive and sustainable development in the district.
The district best farmer award for the Ellembele District for the year 2023 was won by Mohammed Abubakar. He lives at Asasetre in the Ellembelle District. He is married to four women with 41 children. He has 60 goats, 150 sheep, 100 poultry birds, 25 acres of coconut farm, 46 acres of cocoa farm, and several other crops.
In his acceptance speech, he encouraged people whose works are not recognized to keep doing their best because their time will surely come. He had to wait for 84 years before his hard work was recognized. He said farming has supported him throughout his life. Through farming, he has supported his 41 children to attain higher educational levels. He encouraged the youth to get into agriculture since that has a longer lifespan than the mining sector. He congratulated all farmers in the country and encouraged them to keep working hard.
To end his speech, he thanked the DCE, sponsors of the award event, and encouraged them to do more to support farmers in the district. He further thanked the MP for Ellembele, Hon Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah for donating an amount of Gh2000.00 to him
