Ghana beyond Aid was the theme selected for this year’s celebration of the 61st Independence Day which saw about 650 participants in the march past at Nkroful Agricultural School Park, where the event was successfully held.
The march past witnessed two basic school cadets, five second cycle school cadets, three Basic Schools, three Junior High Schools and Farmer groups.
Addressing observers and participants, the Honourable District Chief Executive, Kwasi Bonzoh admonished all and sundry to change all aspect of their lives and embrace positive attitudes and acquire skills which was a true definition of a Ghanaian.
He explained that the economic transformation the nation required could only be possible through a change in attitude and the commitment of all Ghanaians to strive to break the mentality of dependency and adopt a confident and can-do spirit to build a prosperous nation.
He mentioned that government was committed to creating a stable economic growth that would improve private businesses and as well create jobs for the youth. He added that after a year of disciplined and innovative economic management, the country had seen much improvement.
Hon. Bonzoh added that government would continue to maintain fiscal and debt sustainability which according to him, was fundamental to realizing the “Ghana Beyond Aid” goal.
He prevailed upon the students in the basic level to study hard to enable them make it to the Senior High School in order to take advantage of the Free SHS programme so that they could climb high the educational pedestal and take advantage of the opportunities emerging in Nzemaland.
The two and a half hour programme saw past Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) best boys and girls awarded with cash prizes.
Again, participating Schools were given exercise books and pens where Nkroful Agricultural Senior High School was given cash prize for excelling in the second cycle debate competition.
