In a bid to ensure improved environmental cleanliness around the beaches in the Ellembelle District, the Assembly in collaboration with OIC International the implementing agency for Community- Led Environment and Beach Improvement and School Sanitation (CLEBISS) programme has organized a clean-up exercise in the Esiama Community.

The District Environmental Health Officer of the Assembly, Mr. Ted Tettey pointed out that the clean-up exercise sought to empower community members on sound environmental management practices, environmental sanitation and waste management as a whole.

He mentioned that it was also a way to sensitize community members to avoid open defecation which in turn spreads diseases such as cholera to save the District from recording such related cases especially in the rainy season.

Mr. Tettey added that such clean-up exercises is a progarmme organized by the District regularly to encourage communities in the District to make cleaning of their surroundings a habit to earn the District a name of the most cleanest in the Region.

He added that for such reason, communities who set dates for clean-up exercises are assisted with cleaning logistics from the Assembly as well as the technical expertise on how to control filth in their dumping sites.
