ELLEMBELLE DISTRICT ASSEMBLY HELD ITS MAIDEN ASSEMBLY MEETING IN THE 4TH SESSION OF THE FOURTH ASSEMBLY.

Ellembelle District is one of the fourteen district Assemblies in the western region. It was carved from the Nzema East Municipal Assembly with a degree of the then president J.A. Kuffour on 29 February 2008. The district can boast of a population of over 120,000 according to the 2021 census with very rich resources such as gold, cocoa, rubber, tourism, etc.

The assembly is made up of 52 assembly members and staff to manage the activities of the district. During the Assembly meeting yesterday 15^th March, 2023 the DCE informed the house of newly posted officers to assist in the running of the district.

In his speech, the DCE, Hon Bonzoh made a passionate appeal to the general assembly and the chief”s to help combat illegal mining activities within the district because the destruction of the environment is immeasurable and is cost to the assembly. He continues to say that within the week ahead he will launch a community mining company which will start operation as a substitute to provide decent jobs for over 300 youth within the district and he believes the community mining will enable them to eradicate total illegal mining within the District.

The DCE informed the house that the seven-area council has been reconstituted and temporal office space and officers were assigned to assist the area council operation and promised them that the assembly support the area council in executing their ceded duties.

the DCE, Hon. Kwasi Bonzoh, used the opportunity to inform the August house of upcoming projects within the district such as building materials, rehabilitation of DCD’s residence, and construction of 1 NO. 10-seater water closet at (Edwakpole, Esiama Market, Kikam, UBASH, Aiyinase Market. And Evuma), construction of 1 NO. 6-seater water closet Toilet with mechanized Borehole at Basake and Asanta, construction 1 NO. 1-unit Modern Lockable Fish Market with 3 Handwashing facilities, terrazzo floor, ceiling, and 4-seater Water Closet Toilet at Aiyinase, street light, acquisition of 4 by 4 double Cabin Pick-up for revenue mobilization, furniture for office use and acquisition of 500mono desks, 100 Teachers Table and school uniforms to support the educational sector.

 Hon Kwasi Bonzoh stressed that the assembly has performed very well in mobilizing 87.06% of the annual revenue target for the financial year as compared to the previous year which achieved only 52.03% of the annual revenue target.

The MP’s representative advised the general assembly to work together for the progress of our dear district and inform the house that the Hon. MP has been uplifted as deputy Minority leader in parliament and has an equally important task today, hence his absence.

The assembly members complained about the services of the electricity company of Ghana such as late bailing of clients, delay in replacing faulty poles, high cost of meters, and new services including government properties but the DTO responded that they working very hard to resolve all issues raise but continue to say that the bails for public and private are the same which is beyond their control but with regards to bailing the meter he said formerly every bailing is done in Accra which prolong it but assure assembly members that currently the have moved it to Takoradi so it will reduce the delaying in bailing.

The district coordinating director reported that ex-gratia has been paid to the outgone assembly members and appealed to them to inform their predecessors who do not know about the payment to come for the check.
