Green Ghana day is a day marked for every Ghanaian to plant a tree in other to restore the lost green cover due to climate change and some human activities.
This year’s celebrations took place at Kikam Technical Institute within the Ellembelle District. The whole Ellembelle District Assembly was at the venue to plant trees with the students. Among the Delegation was the Honorable Chief Executive Officer of the Ellembelle District Assembly, Hon. Kwasi Bonzoh. Also in attendance was the Coordinating Director of the Ellembelle District Assembly, Mr. Solomon Kwaku Adjei, the Headteacher of Kikam Technical Institute, Friends of the Nation, officers and staff of Forestry Department, Environmental Health, Information Department, and many more departments. Different species of tree seedlings were planted to mark the occasion.
In his address, the DCE took his time to find out if the students know the importance of planting trees. The students gave a good number of reasons why trees should be planted to the amazement of the DCE. He urged each student to plant a tree and take care of the tree till they complete school and if possible write their names on it to symbolize their presence and contribution towards replenishing our green cover. He continue to say that we can’t live without tree and in other to reduce carbon and increase oxygen we must continue to grow trees for the betterment of our world.
Hon. Kwasi Bonzo, reiterated that some years back this place was very green because of the forest cover but due to human activities the whole land has lost it cover. He said as human being continue to depend on the tree product like wood to survive, our forest will continue to suffer. Furthering his speech he said the only way to ensure we get our forest cover back is to replant all lost trees. He continue to say that there should be a mechanism to monitor the survival of these trees than just planting it.
The headteacher was very happy with the presence of the DCE and his officers in his school to plant trees. He pledged to ensure that the students take proper care of the trees planted.
