REPORT ON DURBAR OF PRESENTATION OF ITEMS TO PEOPLE LIVING WITH DISABILITY (PWD’S)

The Ellembelle District Assembly through the Disability Fund Management Committee (DFMC) organized a durbar held on 16th May 2024 at the premises of the Kwame Nkrumah Motel to distribute items to empower People Living with Disability (PWDs).

Hon. DCE, DCD, some staff of the Assembly, the media and the general public were present to grace the occasion.  The event began with an opening prayer and introduction of guests.

The District Social Development Officer on behalf of the DFMC welcomed all who honored their invitation and stated the processes of selecting PWDs to benefit from the 3% DFMC fund.

The District Co-ordinating Director also welcomed members of PWDs, Hon. Members and the general public to the program.  He thanked the DFMC for a good work and the office of the Social/Community Development Department for their effort to identify PWDs in the district. He advice the beneficiaries to take good care of the items they are receiving. He told them a team of officers will come on monitoring on all   items presented to them.

The District Chairperson of Ghana Federation of Disable urged his colleagues to be efficient and effective in managing items given to them, so they can build a strong enterprise.  He also urged them to play their role as partners in development.

In his address, The District Coordinating Director said for the wellbeing of PWDs, government has allocated 3% DACF to various District Assemblies for those purposes.  In view of this, the Ellembelle District Assembly was not left out.  He went further to say that this is not the first time the district is supporting PWDs, every year this assistance comes to the PWDs and the PWDs themselves can bear witness to these things. He also said those who have not received theirs, will be selected to benefit from the next disbursement.

The District Chief Executive, also welcome all invited and the beneficiaries. He said it always gladding his heart to see PWDs empowered to do their own business and become self-sufficient. The DCE said apart from what is going to be presented today there has being other support like, Payment of school fees for PWDs, Payment of hospital bills for PWDs, Capital support for those already in various businesses, support all programs and workshops of PWDs. He advice all beneficiaries to take good care of the items they have received.

The District Chief Executive said, the start-up-capital which is being given to them to start their own business should be put to its maximum use since it is the government priority to improve the living standards of all PWDs. He further said the Assembly is rolling out all PWDs who are not on the National Health Insurance on it and will also renew those who have but have expired.  He said the Social Welfare/Community Development Department in collaboration with the Leadership of the Ghana Federation of Disable, Ellembelle will continue to identify and help all PWDs in the district.
